The Levin Gardens at Tanglewood

An American Edwardian Landscape Legacy for the Levin Family and
America's Earliest European Settlement–Pensacola, Florida, Est. 1559

Landscape design by James A. Martin Jr., owner of Gulfside Landscaping, Inc.

The Levin Gardens at Tanglewood are created as a legacy to the Levin Family. The Levin Gardens will be home to the Marilyn Levin Pensacola Camellia Preservation Garden. Marilyn's Garden will be dedicated to the preservation of approximately 16 camellias created in Pensacola, Florida, and it will be home to 50 camellia tree species, recognized worldwide. The Pensacola Camellia Society is the oldest camellia society in the United States. In December of 2013 the Camellia Society of the United States will converge in Pensacola for the 75th anniversary of the United States Camellia Society.

Colonel Dick Hooton (retired, Pensacola), a recognized authority on camellias in Pensacola as well as the United States at large, is currently working on the first "Marilyn Levin" Camellia. The Marilyn Levin Pensacola Camellia Preservation Garden will contain the first "Marilyn Levin" Camellia japonica.

The combination of Italian cypress, boxwood hedge, herbaceous spring-, summer-, and fall-blooming perennials, and blooming deciduous trees will be a prelude to the grandeur of the winter blooming camellias, creating a symphony of spectacular, brilliant color throughout the entire year. Pictures of Tanglewood "in bloom" will be as famous as the cypress-lined road to La Foce in Tuscany and the vibrantly blooming estates of Sussex, England.

The cultured stone walls, the cobbled driveway, radial patios, and walkways will represent a European influence of Harold Peto, the most acclaimed landscape designer of the Victorian and Edwardian era. The Levin Gardens will rival those of the mansions of Europe and New England, enhanced by the complimentary architectural design of Dio Perera and the sculpture of Michael Boles. The interior and exterior designs by Perera, the timeless bronzes of Boles, and the beautifully landscaped gardens at Tanglewood will solidify the presence and legacy of the Levin Family.

Guests approaching the gardens by boat will be in awe as they begin their journey to the residence and see Boles's exquisite Daphne in the center courtyard with the grandeur of Perera's residential masterpiece as the backdrop. With the gardens in full bloom, every possible positive emotion will be invoked. Guests will be inspired with love as they look left to view Amphitrite, the mythological wife of Poseidon, in her aqueous setting surrounded by fragrant foliage. It will be a most memorable impression, as guests proceed to the grand staircase of this magnificent residence.

Guests approaching the front entrance by car will begin their journey along the European cobbled drive through the garden of Italian cypress, camellias, roses, and herbaceous perennials in bloom, guided by a flame in the center of the rose garden, which will lead them to the entrance where they will be greeted by the bronze sentries Laars and Rugga.

The Levin Gardens compliment the splendor of the interior and exterior architectural design of the residence and the art contained within the residence and on the grounds. Every consideration has been taken to insure Tanglewood is "one of a kind." James Martin and Gulfside Landscaping, Inc. proudly present the magnificent Levin Gardens at Tanglewood.
